Clayton Vila announces plans to release a super segment online, for free
“You got a minute to chat today?” read the text. It was August and professional skier Clayton Vila wanted to talk about a project that had been brewing in his mind for some time. The next morning, Vila told me his plan.
He, with the help of his ski sponsor K2, had conjured up a way to gather all of his 2011-2012 ski footage from Teton Gravity Research, Poor Boyz, and Stept. His master plan was to create one, all-encompassing segment. Better yet, he said, he wanted to release it online for free.
Inspired by skateboarder Nyjah Houston’s groundbreaking video part, “Rise and Shine,” Vila’s segment, entitled, “The Creep” serves multiple purposes. Yes, it is one of the best segments in recent memory, but it also is a call to action—an artistic statement that success is not exclusive to competitive skiing. The video part will be released on December 11, 2012. In the days before the segment drops, Vila’s story will be told in two parts exclusively on Powder.com. Stay tuned.
