RESORT DESCRIPTION:
Nestled in a box canyon, Telluride blends historic buildings and local watering holes with world-class hotels and restaurants. Telluride Ski Resort has expanded by over 300 acres over the last few years, offering some of the most stunning skiing and riding on the planet. Telluride’s incredible expansion includes Revelation Bowl, public hike-to access to Black Iron Bowl, Palmyra Peak and Gold Hill Chutes. Touting the combination of awe-inspiring views, unrivaled terrain, and the ease of direct flights from nine major hubs, Telluride is truly unmatched in North America.
• 12/15-12/18: FIS Visa Snowboard World Cup
Traversing from north to south, Telluride’s terrain naturally shifts from expert to beginner, keeping skiers and boarders in areas suitable to their skills. Terrain breakdown—23-percent beginner, 36-percent intermediate and 41-percent advanced/expert. Telluride has three terrain parks: Hoot Brown Advanced Park, Misty Intermediate Park and the Ute Beginner Park.
There are very few towns in North America that can match the vibe of Telluride. Once a gritty mining town that turned to a funky hippie town, T-Ride holds on to both elements even as the jet-set crew has tried to establish a foothold. Old Victorian houses, a gondola from town, and backcountry access that is rivaled by almost no one are what define Telluride in 2011.
