RESORT DESCRIPTION:
Located 78 miles east of Seattle atop the crest of Washington’s Cascade Range, Stevens Pass is a Northwest skier’s backyard playground. Reaping the benefits of a natural convergence, cool air often drifts from the east through the Stevens Pass area colliding with maritime Pacific storms, resulting in over 450 inches of relatively dry annual snowfall. Operating on 100-percent Northwest-generated wind power, a top-shelf terrain park, an open boundary, and 1,125 acres covering three sides of Cowboy Ridge and Big Chief Mountain, Stevens’ variety of terrain features and aspects has made it a local favorite for over 70 years.
• 12/17: Open Season Rail Jam. Break out the scent block camo and blaze-orange Carhartts for this shotgun start of a freestyle season opener.
• 4/1: Retro Fools Day. A Northwest classic, complete with straight ski races
• 4/17: Springfestival. Pond Skim, Dummy Downhill, and live bands round out the season in this blowout benefit for the Outdoorsforall Foundation.
Variety of all kinds is the name of the game. From the pillows, spines, and steeps of Cowboy Ridge, to the bowls and glades of Mill Valley, to the 30 acres of frequently manicured jumps, hips, rails and boxes of the Top Phlight Terrain Park, Stevens Pass prides itself on being a mountain of many faces.
Once a “Little Area That Rocks,” Stevens Pass has been making a big splash on the big screen lately by hosting several of the nation’s top film companies in their park. But while the park is suddenly getting all the attention, it’s the steeps and powder that originally built Stevens’ reputation.
