RESORT OVERVIEW

Skiers consistently rank Alta at the top in the U.S. for powder, snow quality, terrain and value. Located just 40 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport, Alta is one of the most accessible ski areas in North America. Staying at one of Alta’s traditional lodges reminds skiers of the oft-forgotten romance of the sport. Last year Alta celebrated its 70th anniversary, reporting a season snowfall total of 696 inches. Alta continues its tradition of being a skiers-only mountain. Snowboarding is not allowed.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

• Teen Freeride Camps: Christmas and Presidents Day Weeks (visit alta.com)
• 1/20-25: Women’s Ski Camp
• 2/08-13: Kim Reichhelm’s Steep Camp

TERRAIN BREAKDOWN

Carved out by glaciers, Alta offers almost equal parts terrain for all skiers—25% beginner, 40% intermediate and 35% advanced. Legendary for its steep powder runs, perhaps Alta’s best kept secret is the mile-long beginner runs in Albion Basin.
We had a local chastise us last year for “giving away” Wildcat, an area that is not only under the lift and on the trial map, but visible from the parking lot. The point is, as much as locals will lament how quickly Atla gets tracked, there is usually a stash somewhere, often right under your nose.
