Trail Map

Not sure if everyone saw the memo about how big Maine skiing went last season, but Sunday River received 56 inches above its average snowfall. And which, to the still skinny ski sporting (and friggin proud of it) and Swix-sponsored diehards, meant that the 200 acres of black and double-black terrain actually had coverage.
The Rivah has 18 lifts that interconnect eight peaks. The western peaks, Aurora, Oz, and the Jordan Bowl provide access to the steepest runs, where gladed areas see sparse traffic, mainly squirrel. To the east, atop Barker Mountain, begins local favorite Top Gun, where the edges of the trees are like a side of steamahs on a fresh day.

What’s New: Introducing the Chondola, a chairlift gondola amalgam, and the first in New England. The Chondola will carry six-person chairs and eight-person gondola cars on one high-speed lift running from the South Ridge base area directly to the Peak Lodge on North Peak. This new lift will cut what was a 20-minute ride on two separate lifts to a single ride just under seven minutes, bringing hardcore lappers to a point where they will have direct access to six of the eight peaks. And be much warmer.

Inside Line: The siren song of Maine après is a bowl of New England clam chowder topped with bacon at the Foggy Goggle, washed down with a dark and stormy.
