Trail Map

Kicking Horse Resort trail map

Kicking Horse is situated in the Dogtooth Range of the Purcell Mountains above the hard-edged, logging and railway town of Golden. From the Eagles Eye Restaurant at the top of the Golden Eagle Express gondola, you have over 4,000 vertical feet of chutes, bowls and glades at your disposal. Pick a line to the north off CPR Ridge and head on over to the Stairway to Heaven quad. Redemption Ridge offers a selection the steep, blown-in chutes. If Patrol has opened Whitewall, hike the ridge and prepare yourself for spines and cliffs. For those with the necessary backcountry gear and savvy, the Horse “Slackcountry” is a buffet of big mountain terrain. Terminator Ridge to the south is a short boot pack and gives you the option to drop back inbounds to Bowl Over (pay attention to permanent closures), or rip the aptly named Super Bowl on the backside. To the north lies Molar Bowl and the glaringly obvious lines of the Dogtooth Range.

What’s New: The Big Mountain Centre yurt was launched last season with the intention of educating aspiring backcountry skiers. One, three and five-day courses are offered.

Inside Line: For a pint of Kokanee and some poutine pull up a stool at the Taps or hit the River House Café, a popular local’s haunt with live metal bands.
