It’s been one year since the new owners and general manager have taken over Alpine, and things couldn’t be better. Ticket prices have gone up a bit, but Alpine Meadows still maintains a welcoming atmosphere that is true to its roots. A ride up Summit Six on a powder morning while scanning to see if anyone has placed lines in Wolverine Bowl or down Pete’s Peril still gets you excited. And the battle for first tracks in Sun Bowl via High Traverse remains a tradition among locals, and a run down Craig’s Gully through Promised Land still leaves your teeth clenched. And the boundaries remain open and shouldering or skinning is smiled upon if you have your beacon, probe, shovel and companion.

What’s New:The dual mountain pass now allows Alpine Meadows skiers to shoot five miles down Tahoe’s West Shore to Homewood Mountain Resort.

Inside Line: When the Sherwood Bowls get tracked out, grab some much need refreshment at the Ice Bar and head out toward Scott Chair. Get off to your left and ride down the ridge above Scott Chute and Promised Land to the trees above Gentian Gully. Hit the Lower 40 and traverse to the Subway Chair or drop into the lower parking lot and grab the little green tractor shuttles.
