
As winter continues to pummel the Pacific Northwest, Stevens Pass is reveling in the 91" of new snow they received last week. Powder turns and face shots have been ruling the scene on a daily basis. January has been an epic month for powder hounds, back country types and park rats alilke.
Ski patrol should probably be checked for tendonitis of the rotator cuff after throwing so many bombs in the last week. In addition to the full avalanche control crew running six routes with a combined launcher/hand attack, the Washington Department of Transportation is handling highway control work off Cowboy Ridge using two 105 mm army surplus tanks.
As the snow continues to mount up, the forecast promises a break in the weather and could reveal some very rare, epic bluebird days at Stevens Pass. Washington is rebounding nicely after last winter’s drought.
