Snowrider Project
San Clemente, CA (November 19, 2003) - With snow falling and winter resorts across the country opening their lifts for business, the Surfrider Foundation announced today that it is rolling out a revamped version of their Snowrider Project.
Designed to help educate mountain and downstream communities in the intrinsic connection between alpine watersheds and beach and coastal areas, the Snowrider Project is actually a sub-initiative of Surfrider Foundation's successful Respect The Beach educational program. After originally debuting several years ago, Surfrider Foundation's Snowrider Project was temporarily sidelined so that the organization could focus its attention on ever mounting threats to the nation's beaches and coastlines. Even so, the program has remained popular with many activists, particularly in the Pacific Northwest.
"Snowrider Project never truly went away," says Ed Mazzarella, Director of Chapters for the Surfrider Foundation. "A number of chapters have continued conducting educational outreaches and watershed clean-ups."
As part of the new roll out, the Surfrider Foundation has developed a new Snowrider Project logo, printed a new Snowrider Project brochure, developed a new Surfrider Foundation print public service announcement (PSA) featuring pro snowboarder Tara Dakides, and is continuing to promote last year's hugely successful educational video "From Sea to Summit: A Journey Through the Watershed" which features action sports stars Tony Hawk, Tara Dakides, Donavon Frankenreiter, Brad Gerlach, and Jodie Nelson.
The Surfrider Foundation will be working through its network of grassroots chapters and activists to introduce the Snowrider Project into schools and communities throughout the country.
