Banff Season Opens Early

November 1, 2002

BANFF/ LAKE LOUISE, Alberta - Welcome to winter! The ski and snowboard season will kick off tomorrow (November 2nd) in Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine, marking the earliest opening date in recent history and the first opening of a Canadian ski resort in 2002.

Although recent cool temperatures have seen locals scraping car windshields and upping hot chocolate consumption; the conditions have been perfect for snowmaking and have allowed Lake Louise to open a week earlier than planned. With one major route set to go off the Glacier Express chair, skiers and riders will be heading to the slopes this weekend for some early season turns and flipping their calendar pages from "Summer" to "Ski" as the seven month season is under way in Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine.

Skiing and riding will soon be running full tilt in Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine as Sunshine Village and Ski Banff @ Norquay will also open shortly. Planned opening dates are November 15th at Sunshine Village and December 13th Ski Banff @ Norquay. Club Ski & Club Snowboard, Ski Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine's unique 3-day, tri-area guiding and instruction program begins December 9th. Visit www.skibig3.com for up-to-date details on opening dates.
