Poor Boyz Productions declared WAR in Oregon this week, premiering their latest flick to packed houses in three venues across the Cascades. The Oregon tour, presented by Salomon, kicked off with the world premier at McMenamins Old St. Francis Theatre, a historic schoolhouse turned pub and movie house in downtown Bend.
The Old St. Francis is relatively small, but the majority of seating is in plush couches. The event had the cozy feel of sitting in your living room enjoying a movie and a beer with friends. However, chances are, your living room doesn’t have a full size theatre screen, a fully stocked bar with over a dozen microbrews on tap, or Sammy Carlson and Peter Olenick signing posters and throwing out free gear.
All the couches were filled and the audience was loud and involved. Bendites didn’t hesitate to loudly support the athletes present as well the stand out tricks and lines.
“One of the best parts about going on these movie tours is getting to see what shots the crowd gets excited about,” says Filmmaker Johnny DeCesare. “It’s different at every show. Seth’s segment seemed to get the best cheers tonight.”
The next morning everyone started out with breakfast and poster signing hosted by Skjerssas Ski shop. Then it was off to Hood River for the second showing of WAR at the Full Sail Brewery.
While the brewery didn’t have lavish couched seating, it supplied a more vibrant atmosphere. Stoked groms packed in and filled every inch of floor space. The showing went off with huge crowd responses for all the technical jibbery, including the urban switch ups and right-side spins.
The tight quarters packed with athletes, filmmakers, and awed Gorge fans made for a close knit family feel. As usual, the crowd was served with poster signing and schwag, courtesy of athletes Chris Benchetler, Andy Maher, Sammy Carlson, Peter Olenick, and Zach Davidson.
After the movie everyone headed up the street to the Savinos for the after-party. Two MCs and one DJ rocked the stage while the rest of the crew got a chance to hang out and celebrate the success of the first two stops of the tour.
The next morning the crew saddled up and made their way to Portland for the last Oregon showing of WAR and the premiere of Pop Yer Bottlez.
The event was held at McMenamins Kennedy School, a historic elementary school in Northeast Portland remodeled into into a hotel/pub/resturaunt/theatre. It was the biggest venue of the tour and hosted the most eclectic group of fans. The crowd ranged from young kids, to twenty something punkers, to people that look like they belonged at your parents wine tasting party. It was exciting to sees such diversity coming out to watch and support skiing.
Tanner Hall and CR Johnson, the directors of Pop Yer Bottlez, came to sign posters and hype up the film that was shown directly after WAR.
“Both movies were off the Richter,” says moviegoer Ryan Vesslepour. “I already bought War and I’ll be getting Pop Yer Bottlez as soon as I can get my hands on it.”
There was no official after-party but without going into details it can be said that Tanner, CR, Johnny, and Jesse finished off the Oregon tour in true C-Crew baller style.
“I had so much fun on in Oregon,” says Descesare. “Thanks to Jenny Nastulin from Salomon for putting everything together for us. She organized all this madness and totally killed it.”
