POWDER Magazine Update

April 25, 2003
The Oakley Quarterpipe at Superpark 4, 2002.

APRIL 18, 2003-The end of the ski season marks the successful conclusion of the eight-week, 20-town Powder to the People Tour, powered by Volkswagen. Combining an on-slope presence, athlete appearances and the popular Powder Magazine Video Awards parties, the trip raised $8,000 for ski-related charities.

In staffing news, Sarah Smith joins Powder as the magazine's Copy Editor. A graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Smith interned at National Geographic Adventure and Conde Nast Traveler before starting at Powder. In addition to her duties as Copy Editor, Smith will also manage the gear reviews in Powder's highly regarded STUFF section.

Smith replaces Kim Stravers, who accepted the Managing Editor position at SG, a women's surf, snow, and skate magazine also published by Primedia's Action Sports Group. In other staff changes, Derek Taylor was promoted from Associate Editor to Senior Editor. He continues to oversee most of the magazine's departments, while playing a pivotal role in the web site, www.powdermag.com, (now with an average monthly traffic of over 90,000 unique visitors).
