Maggot Update

August 29

The perennially dependable Santa Rosa storms are teasing us. Last night Las Lenas was dusted with new snow. Weather forecasts don't seem able to keep up with the unpredictable changes of the Andean climate. But the lack of fresh has not diminished the spirits of Maggots and others expanding the scope of their pursuit of better turns.

Cat service from the top of the Marte has been dropping us at the base of Cerro Torrecillas for boot packs to ridges lined with towering spires, fluted steeps and carveable snow. From the poma above Marte, we hiked Cerro Marin Wednesday for an icy entry to buff in the bowl below. Reports from Tom Ways and Eric Des Lauriers have placed Cerro Entre Rios in our sights if impending clouds and snow don't white out the descents.

The buzz of this Thursday morning is that the Argentine Air Force is predicting a slammer in the next day or two. If so, the Santa Rosa will arrive on schedule for all here who have been stretching their legs to git sum regardless of the freeze and thaw cycles that have left inbounds runs rough and sketch.

As always, Maggots have bonded and enjoyed, preached the Maggot Gospel and recruited, turning a South American Summit with less than memorable conditions into an adventure of Andean perseverance as we climb all day to ski the steeps and party all night in the Resort That Never Sleeps.
