WEEKEND DUMP: Jackson gets hit with another

1/9/06

After a massive storm dropped 60 inches between December 27 and January 1, powder-gorged Jacksonites had just started to recuperate at the end of last week when a new system rolled in Saturday afternoon. Some were claiming the village had received a foot a day for the last six days; the new flakes started coming down just in time to fill in the few last surviving bony areas.

Things started shaping up nicely Saturday afternoon as the snow continued to fall. 15 hours and 15 inches later a jonesing tram line and gondy crowd had already formed. Though the overnight snowfall alleviated much of the crust factor that had formed on Thursday and Friday, it still wasn’t quite bottomless in-bounds. Two ridges out the gate was another story. Four Pines conditions were optimal, with each lap surpassing the last. It was coming down hard and people were fired up. It might not have been as deep as last week, but the short lines and small crowds almost made up for it.

Monday morning started off bluebird with squeaky cold temps. Five more inches fell Sunday night, just enough to sparingly fill-in yesterday’s schralp effect. Clean stashes were definitely available for those willing to look.

Looks like more snow’s on the way this week (Check out POWDERWATCH to see where it's dumping). If you aren’t planning on hitting Jackson this year, your plans might need some altering.
