DEEP TEMERITY: Aspen Highlands adds lift for 2005/2006

Preparations are under way now for the new Deep Temerity lift at Aspen Highlands. A contract to purchase the lift has been signed, final approval has been granted and Mountain Operations staff is working with U.S. Forest Service personnel on initial preparations.  Professional loggers are on site and will begin work immediately below the Grand Traverse.  The lift will be installed this summer.

"We are thrilled to be able to open this new terrain," said Ron Chauner, Aspen Highlands Mountain Manager. "Our staff has dreamed about opening this new terrain to the public for a long time and this represents a project whose concept reaches back to 1976"

New terrain opening for the 2005-06 season will include the extensions of South Castle, Kessler Bowl and Soddbuster to almost double in length, plus an additional 1,000 feet of vertical below Highland Bowl. In subsequent years, additional glading and trail work will bring the potential development of this area to 270 total acres.

The new Deep Temerity lift will be a fixed grip triple chair, covering 1,700 vertical feet in 7.3 minutes. The top terminal will be near the existing Loge Peak chair and the lower terminal will be accessed via the new "Grand Reverse" from the Steeplechase side and the Highland Bowl catwalk from the bowl side. 

Tree clearing will begin immediately below the Highland Bowl catwalk.  Trail work will commence as the snow pack recedes.  Construction will begin on the Grand Reverse in mid-May and POMA will begin construction in mid-June.
