After finally arriving in Sochi, Russia, competitors experienced the beach vibes and palm trees of Russia's premiere summer and beachside resort. A short shuttle up the valley and the scene changes to the developing ski village of Krasnaya Polyana. Luxury hotels dot the landscape as do shanty-like houses that existed pre-ski era.

The 56 athletes made the journey from all parts of the globe to experience Krasnaya Polyana's deep powder and mini Alaska-like features that characterize the ridge at the top lift system. After an hour of riding the snail-like double lifts, riders were able to scope the features from a short traverse. Although the snowpack was a bit thinner than last year, riders were amped to slay some aggressive lines on the complex spine systems and features that ran off the ridge.

Day one was postponed to many riders' delight because of too much snow. The first few days, riders experienced epic deep powder conditions with continuous storming. Most riders ventured to the trees with the guidance of some local riders and sessioned some exciting pillow lines and cliff drops in the strange deciduous forests.

When the guides finally gave clearance to commence day one, riders were anxious to get on the faces on prime condition. Highlights included a spectacular crash by Henrik Windstedt and a failed backflip by Drew Tabke as well as a massive stomped air by Seb Michaud. Skiers and snowboarders alike were riding hard on the short but technical lines. At the end of day one, Aurelien Ducroz's powerful skiing was leading with other skiers close behind. Jess McMillan took the lead in the women's category.

Day two started with overcast conditions and took place on the Rosa Face, about an hour hike from the top chair. The venue for day two wasn't quite as gnarly as day one, so skiers integrated more airs as highlighted by Thomas Diet's and Seb Michaud's double-back flip attempts. Sverre Lilliequist's consistent and powerful charging put him in first place with his combined line scores. Aurelien Ducroz's fast skiing and stomped airs put him in second with Frenchman Thibaud Duchosal taking third. On the women's front, Jess McMillan's super-fast style and consistent stompage put her in first, with an impressive day two line involving a committing spine system.

Overall skiers threw down strong lines and impressive airs at this unique venue. The event ended with two tour buses packed to Sochi in order to shed some pent-up party anxiety. Riders were treated to a crazy shirtless night in the chic city of Sochi while dancing until five in the morning when the buses departed.
