Edge of Never Party at WSSF
Photos from the event at the Blake Jorgenson Gallery in Whistler
On April 20, POWDER hosted a book signing and live auction at the Blake Jorgenson Gallery in Whistler Westin Hotel. The event served the dual purpose of helping The Edge of Never author Bill Kerig celebrate the fact that he now has the funding to complete the E.O.N. movie project, and to raise money for the family of Shane McConkey.
Approximately 60 people passed through the gallery, with many sticking around for the live auction, presided over by POWDER Senior Correspondent Mitchell Scott. The crowd contained a variety of Whistler and Ski Industry heavies, including the Treadway brothers, Dan, Dave and Daryl; the Petitt brothers Sean and Callum; Mike Douglas; Ingrid Backstrom; Laura Ogden; James Heim; and Kye Petersen, the subject of The Edge of Never book and movie. A film crew from Edge of Never productions taped the event.
Attendees bid on a number of prints from the POWDER archives and Blake Jorgenson’s personal stock. The big score of the evening was a classic Mark Gallup photo of Whistler legends Trevor Petersen and Eric Pehota riding the pontoons of a helicopter after the pioneering descent of a peak now known as Pontoon. The auction came down to a bidding war between Kye, vying for the classic shot of his father, and Kerig. Kerig eventually prevailed, and gifted the photo back to Kye.
The event raised close to $1,000, which will be donated to the McConkey Family Fund. For more, please visit http://www.shanemcconkey.org.
