UTAH RECEIVES THREE FEET: Snowbird gets big dump
It looks like full-on winter out there - the snow guns have been fired up, cats have started their engines and patrol has started to get the mountain ready. The unofficial word (from patrol "getting the mountain ready") was that Great Scott skied quite nicely with three feet of fresh. It'll be even better after the storms that are supposed to roll through this weekend.

TERMINATION DUST: Ends Summer in AK
Termination dust arrived September 14th on the high peaks in the local Chugach surrounding Anchorage. This is what locals call the first visible snow in the area that officially ends summer. The following week delivered rain, which this time of year translates into a little fresh snow up high. This was enough to lure Josh Hegna and I North to Lane Glacier in the Hatcher Pass area on September 22nd. Our expectation was a long approach to ski a glacial snowfield with a topping of new snow. Being it was only September and our first turns in a while, the plan was not to go big other than in the form of exercise. The weather was perfect as we schlepped our gear patiently to the glacier, and in return were rewarded with quality skiing for September in Alaska. Check out the pics...
