MASSIVE ALASKA: Breakout Gallery
A typical day in Haines, Alaska involves getting up as dawn breaks over Lynn Canal. A visual inspection of the weather situation and some phone calls render one of two things: throw all your gear on and bust-ass to the heli pick-up or climb back in bed for another few hours. For the text that accompanies these photos go HERE.
LEAVING ST. MORITZ: Spring in Switzerland
It’s definitely warmer here. The language has changed some, too. More Italian, probably some Romange, if I knew what Romange actually sounds like. Or how to spell it. It’s my last day with the Liberty skis crew. Once we’re done here, I hop a train to Zurich where I’ll stay up all night singing the praises of F.C. Zurich in a football bar called Big Ben, then board a plane back to L.A.
The lines are more boney here, the snow much more thin. But these mountains are big, and I look around wide-eyed at the possibilities. On my last day, only Tom and Alex venture into anything aggressive. Afterwards, we work some low angle powder and hit some small rocks on our way down to the apres bar. It’s been an awesome trip, but spring is here. It’s time to go home.
AIR KOOTENAY: H/H and MSP Crew photos from the Selkirks
Ever wonder what a cork 7 off a 50-foot cliff looks like live in person? Or speculate how much preparation and time it takes to properly navigate through massive pillows with blind rollovers? The text that accompanies these photos can be found HERE.
PUTTING ON THE MORITZ: Photos From Davos
We came from Davos, a place of down-to-Earth wealth, where we were welcomed as stars and provided with a flat just off the bus route and steps from one of five ski systems that ring the valley.
SELKIRK PHOTOS: Abma, Hoji and Heim and MSP
Avalanches and capricious clouds aside, we have been skiing deep, smoky pow in late March at Selkirk Wilderness Skiing. The Helly Hansen crew comprised of the Canadian trio—Mark Abma, Eric Hjorleifson, and James Heim—is up here playing around in front of the MSP cameras for the week.
SLALOM BAR PHOTOS: Den evil in Lenzerheide
This is a story about skiing in Switzerland, but before we can get there, I need to tell you about the Slalom Bar. We were told the Slalom Bar is a good place. It is not. It is a fun place. A great place to take photos. And to do a shot. When there are more people, it is probably an amazing place to party. But I see nothing good coming from this den of evil in the shadow of the Rothorn. Go HERE for the story that accompanies these images.
LENZERHEIDE GALLERY: Powder in the Swiss Alps
The town on Lenzerheide sits in a narrow valley with ski lifts crawling up both sides. The crown jewel is the Rothornbahn cable car, which rises to the 2865-meter summit of Rothorn, a craggy massif with narrow, rocky couloirs snaking off it. For the story that accompanies this gallery go HERE
POWDER WEEK 2008: Fill It!! - Photos
Once again, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort played the perfect host to POWDER Week. With snow falling on Sunday and Monday, the steep and deep of Jackson’s inbounds and backcountry terrain answered the call. For the story that goes along with these images click HERE.
