One of the greatest things about hitchhiking is that it enables you to meet and interact with people you would otherwise never get the chance to know. As I stood in a blizzard trying to get a ride out of Minturn, Carlos walked up and introduced himself. An El Salvadorian working as a carpenter in Minturn, he was, like me, without wheels and trying to get a ride to Leadville.
