Cue the shortened attention span, gear binge, and inability to think about anything but your first day of the season: Some major resorts across the West got their first snows this week.

Breckenridge, Whistler, Loveland, Bachelor, Crested Butte, Lake Louise, Castle Mountain, Sunshine Village, Big Sky, Jackson, and Bridger Bowl have all reported their first dustings of the 2013-2014 season, with video evidence from Big Sky below.

Tahoe received a couple inches of fresh snow on Saturday night, much to the chagrin of the couple thousand Ironman athletes who had to jump in a frigid Lake Tahoe before dawn the next morning. With snow-capped peaks and air temps in the 30s, the athletes swam more than two miles, biked 112 miles, and ran a marathon to the finish line in Squaw Valley.

Meanwhile, Silverton Mountain in Colorado claimed it received two to three feet of September pow. A few ski patrollers jumped on the chairlift, headed to the top of the ski area, and scored the first turns of the season.
