After a painfully dry month across North America’s western mountain communities, Winter has finally shown her beautiful face. In Taos, New Mexico, the resort’s official report of 6 inches in the last three days has locals scratching their heads. Boot-top to knee deep stashes abound in off Highline and in the West Basin. Kachina Peak has been closed since the storm started on Sunday, which could mean a bounty of powder once the hike opens. More snow is expected for TAOS SKI VALLEY on Wednesday, with the storm tapering off on Thursday.
Meanwhile, resorts throughout the region are reporting new snow. Snowbird is reporting 7 new inches in the last two days, with more on the way. Mammoth has reported close to three feet since February 7, and Jackson Hole has received nine inches in the last three days.
Meanwhile, the long suffering East Coast may be in for a refresher, as the biggest storm of the year is expect to drop up to two feet in the Northern reaches of New England.
