The Origins of a Photo Annual Cover
A legend in ski photography, Scott Markewitz continues to push himself and his images to the forefront of innovation, season after season. POWDER caught up with Scott and asked him to describe how he created the Kristi Leskinen shot that was selected for the cover of the 2004 POWDER Photo Annual.
Scott Markewitz: This was shot on Kodak EIR color infrared film. I put a wide angle lens on the camera (probably fisheye in that shot) and held a yellow filter out in front of the lens with one hand while shooting with the other and trying to position myself so that the skier would block the sun. Everything outside the filter comes out fuschia and everything inside the filter has a more normal color (especially blue sky). I shot one roll of film like this and this is really the only shot that captured what I was trying to do.
