Superpark 5, Day 1

Kristi Leskinen boosts.

It is Sunday evening, May 18, the night before Superpark is scheduled to begin. Top freestyle skiers from all over the world are beginning to converge on Windell's camp headquarters at the Shamrock Hotel. As the early arrivals skateboard, shoot hoops, and drink from a keg celebrating the reopening of Windell's newly resurfaced skate bowl, it becomes apparent that Superpark 5 is already on. It's apparent because Kristi Leskinen is already complaining.

"What time is that 'mandatory' meeting," she quips.

"Eight o'clock."

"Yeah, well I'll be in my room sleeping. Why is breakfast so early?"

"That's when the kitchen crew has to get up to feed the rest of the staff."

"That's not what they said," she answers behind a mischievous grin. "What time do the vans leave for the mountain tomorrow?"

"That will probably be covered in the meeting tonight."

"Yeah, well no one's here anyway. I'm going to go find some people." And off she saunters.

Sadly, she is right. Eight o'clock rolls by with the Powder/Axis crew drinking keg beer with the Windell's staff, and not a single athlete shows up to inquire about the "mandatory" meeting. And so the scene is set for what is starting to look like Superpark 5: Adventures in Babysitting.
