Yesterday we told you about the top male prospects heading into the South American Freeskiing Championships at La Parva, Chile, September 3-6. However, contrary to what you may have heard, the Freeskiing World Tour is not a traveling sausage-fest. Indeed, there are a handful of hardcore chicks that shred alongside their male counterparts. It may be a short roster down in La Parva, but it’s long on talent. Ready to prove they aren’t just “good for a girl,” the ladies are eager to go big on McConkey’s. The small field ensures it’s anyone’s ballgame, which will surely push these girls to ski even harder. Here’s a look at POWDER’S picks for the girls who have what it takes to land on the podium.
Be sure to check out POWDER.com for streaming coverage, which starts tomorrow Friday (9/4) and Saturday (9/5) 11:30am EST / 9:30am MST, of the South American Freeskiing Championships at La Parva, Chile, September 3-6.

Jess McMillan
This Jackson Hole local is no stranger to international freeskiing competitions. She was the 2007 IFSA World Tour champion and finished third overall on the 2009 Freeride World Tour, along with tons of podiums around the world. She’s the real deal. She’s got more experience than just about any other female skier out there. The former racer is definitely one of the top big-mountain competitors in the world, so look for her to make a big statement at the opening event of the season down in La Parva.
Jacqui Edgerley
McMillan has experience, Edgerley has youth. The 20-year-old Aspenite may be young, but she’s already a seasoned veteran of the FWT. She’s had numerous top 10 finishes in her two years on the tour including a second and thrid last year at Telluride and Kirkwood. And, she was the 2008 winner of the Freeskiing World Tour’s Young Gun Award. Last year, she also scored the cover of Skiing magazine, and filmed with Sweetgrass Productions. If you don’t know about this up-and-comer yet, you will.
Chiqui Lizana
This Chilean local has a name with a striking resemblance to a delicious Italian dish, so she must be capable of skiing some tasty lines. Based solely on her awesome name and the fact that she knows the mountains of Chile, we’re calling her out as one to watch for at La Parva. South Americans seem to be have an ever-increasing enthusiasm for skiing big mountains and deep pow, so it’s about time one of their own shows us all what South American skiing is all about.
