DOGBOY: Powder Review his Debut Album Rebel Riddim

Dogboy’s debut album Rebel Riddim from Suburban Noize Records jams through a cultural and musical experience not many new artists can successfully pull off today. From beginning to end, his message is clear and his hard-hitting beats and crafty lyrics prove that he’s been through it all. Dogboy sings of love, unity and acceptance of the world we live in. Traveling across the globe, he’s immersed himself in the world's ‘culturally-rich music scene to create a musical melting pot that defies categorization.’ Enriched by this eclectic scene, Rebel Riddim personifies the independent spirit of being creative in an effort to expand listener’s musical horizons.

“I've always been drawn to other cultures because I felt there was a lack of it in my surroundings,” Dogboy says. “I've been to ghettos all over the world and consistently found music by the people for the people, expressing the soul of their surroundings.”

Dogboy’s travels and vast cultural understandings weave his songs into one long rhythmical ride showcasing sound bites of roots, dancehall, ska, punk and even pop/rock. Tracks like Return of the One Drop, Dear Jamaica, Fearless with a Smile, Desperate Times and Straight Love Thing reveal classic roots struggles of poverty, repatriation and one love only people from the motherland of Jamaica can honestly attest to. Title track Rebel Riddim, She’s Driving, One Stop Shopping and Sexy Rebel jive like a snappy ska song only Sublime could outdo. One thing’s for sure—there’s no getting bored with this album. Dogboy’s sound is unique, contagious and straight from the soul.

“I put myself through the good, the bad and the ugly, but music is the one thing that always remained constant regardless of where my life was at,” Dogboy says. “I don't think it's a choice anymore…”

Whether you’re wired up on the slopes for a day of cruising through crud or need some tunes to amp you up to hit that 50 footer in the backcountry, adding Rebel Riddim to your playlist is a stomp-landing.
