**Aspen, Colorado’s Hotel Jerome packed to capacity for prestigious awards show**

Aspen, Colorado—Hollywood has the Oscars, music has the Grammy’s, and skiing has the Powder Magazine Reader Poll and Video Awards. Every year the world’s finest athletes, filmmakers, photographers, industry heavy-hitters, and loyal ski fans converge in Aspen, Colorado to celebrate skiing’s most triumphant achievements documented during the previous season. On Saturday, Jan. 27, the 7th annual Reader Poll and Video Awards presented by Jeep and hosted by MC Uncle E drew more than 600 people to the historic Hotel Jerome for one of the most memorable nights of the year.

With more than 30 ski films and videos released in 2006—and the level of skiing catapulting to new heights—the competition between filmmakers was tougher than ever. After two months of deliberation by the Powder staff and a 25-person industry-wide panel, the results were announced alongside a high-energy video presentation.

Matchstick Productions won their fifth PVA Movie of the Year title. MSP’s 2006 release Push rose to the top of the most competitive field ever assembled for the Powder Video Awards.

Eight different movie companies won awards in the 10 nomination categories, highlighted by Mark Abma taking home his second Best Male Performance award for his diverse segment in Push, and newcomer Grete Eliassen winning Best Female Performance for her energetic part in Poor Boyz Productions Ski Porn.

Rory Bushfield claimed Best Air, Manmade for his switch double backflip, shot in Whistler, B.C. Teton Gravity Research athlete Seth Morrison took Best Air, Natural for his massive high speed front flip in Bella Coola, B.C., appearing the TGR’s ’06 release Anomaly. Anomaly also supplied the winner of the Breakthrough Performance, a non-nominee award. Ian McIntosh beat out a tough field of newcomers, including Sammy Carlsen (Ski Porn, Push), and Wiley Miller (Photo [Play], by Theory 3) with an inspiring string of first descents in the Jackson Hole backcountry capped by his first ever trip to Alaska.

Sverre Liliequist took Line of the Year with a creative and ultra steep mini-golf line in Five O’Clock News by Swedish Posse. Norwegian filmer Jon Hatveit and skier Andreas Hatveit won Best P.O.V with a perfectly executed follow cam over a road gap. Jon Larsson of Free Radicals Snowblind won Best Powder.

Athletes from Respect by Wink Inc. claimed two of the most hair-ball awards, winning Worst Slam with an Alaska Avalanche that swept away Kaj Zackrisson, and Full Throttle, the other non-nominee award, by Seb Michaud.
