Aspen, Colorado—It only happens once a year. The world’s finest athletes, filmmakers, photographers, industry heavy-hitters, and loyal ski fans converged in Aspen, Colorado, on Saturday, Jan. 28, to celebrate skiing’s most triumphant achievements documented during the 2004-05 season. The 6th Annual Powder Magazine Reader Poll and Video Awards presented by Jeep and hosted by MC Uncle E drew more than 600 people to the Hotel Jerome for a night many won’t soon forget.

With 30 ski films and videos released in 2005—and the level of skiing reaching unforeseen new heights—the competition between filmmakers was tougher than ever. After two months of deliberation by the Powder staff and a 25-person industry-wide panel, the results were announced alongside a loud, high-energy video presentation. The winners included Johnny Decesare’s Poor Boyz Productions (Movie of the Year, War), Tanner Hall (Best Male Performance, Teddybear Crisis/Worst Slam, Pop Yer Bottlez), Ingrid Backstrom (Best Female Performance, The Hit List), Pierre-Yves Leblanc (Best Line, Echo), Candide Thovex (Best Jib, War), Andy Mahre (Best Air: Manmade, War), Dana Flahr (Breakthrough Performer, The Tangerine Dream), Jeremy Nobis (Full Throttle, The Tangerine Dream), Harlow Wetschler (Best Air: Natural, Waiting Game), and JP Auclair (Best P.O.V., War).

The Reader Poll Awards—determined by over 2,000 online votes—named Shane McConkey as the number one male skier for the second consecutive year and Ingrid Backstrom as the number one female skier of 2006

David Moe (aka Captain Powder), who founded Powder Magazine in 1972 with his brother Jake, joined the celebration in his head-to-toe white Captain Powder costume. The Captain presented Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Dave McReynolds, Will Burks, and Marc-Andre Belliveau (Tangerine Dream) with the coveted Best Powder award. Other special guest presenters included ski film legend Greg Stump, New England Patriots’ long-snapper Lonie Paxton, and Powder Photo Editor David Reddick.
