Folks: Never venture into the side or backcountry immediately following a huge snowfall (due to an unstable snowpack). Wait 2-3 days until the snow to settle. This is the first thing you learn in an avalanche awareness class.

My condolences to their families and friends.

Powder in the Chamonix after two years of brutal drought with snow down to the valley floor and sometime Powder corespondent and full-time powder skier Nathan Wallace has, in a visual dispatch from the storm crows flying deep in the mists of the lower forest, shared the majesty of Chamonix.

If this coverage leaves you asking questions, you'll most likely find the answers here:

http://espn.go.com/action/freeskiing/story/_/id/7593035/avalanche-washington-stevens-pass-kills-three

More snow across CO and the Rocky Mountains today. JJ was a good friend, please remember that the avalanche doesn't care who you are and how many years you've been skiing. The snowpack is super tender. Be very careful and maybe even spend the day skiing in-bounds. Conditions are the worst I've ever seen in the central rockies. BE SAFE! It will snow again next year. Be with us for that season. God bless, all.
